By Amy Whitaker

The Northwest Cabarrus Gospel Choir held its first meeting in the music room on December 5, 2006. It is a program designed to give students the opportunity to minister through song, and to create a positive environment where students can fellowship and bond with one another. The choir gives its members the opportunity to express themselves vocally and to develop leadership skills. The choir not only plans to sing traditional Gospel and contemporary Gospel music, but Hebrew and Spanish music as well. By expanding the types of music they sing, they feel the choir will become unified, and will understand that not every choir demands the traditional “clap and sway.” All are invited to join this enthusiastic new club. The choir is looking especially for musicians interested in accompanying the choir. Meetings are held once a week in the music room until 4:00. As it stands, the meetings are on Tuesdays. There are five teacher advisors for the club, but meetings will generally be run by Jeremy Kirkpatrick and his assistant, Alyssa. Overall, the choir is a positive way for students to embrace the joy of singing and ministering in a positive and open environment. Upcoming plans include Christmas Caroling and singing the National Anthem at a Northwest Basketball game; suggestions for additional events are welcome. The choir has already learned one song and is working on another. The choir is excited for the opportunity to make a difference at Northwest Cabarrus, and is ready to positively influence the lives of its students.
