By Shanel Soto

www.movieposter.com

Do you think you could live life without seeing or how about living while knowing that you were once able to see the faces of your loved ones? This is the story of young Sydney Wells, who as a child, was in a terrible tragedy that took away her eyesight. Although blind, Sydney is a famous concert violinist in Los Angeles. She has many friends and a sister who loves her very much. But when a chance to see again comes along, Sydney gets a double cornea transplant. The surgery was a success, but what Sydney can now see, along with the faces of her loved ones, makes her wish for the sweet oblivion that being blind offers. Directed by David Moreau and Xavier Palud, this is a horror movie guaranteed to scare all. Released on February 1, 2008, it is the perfect movie to watch to get a few chills. Starring Jessica Alba, better known for her role as Susan Storm from The Fantastic Four series, Alba did a decent job as Sydney Wells, considering this was her first horror film. Also starring in The Eye is Parker Posey. She is known for her roles in the 2006 Superman as Kitty Kowalski, and Broken English as Nora Wilder. She did a great job as Sydney’s older sister, Helen Wells. Posey played the role of a businesswoman who is very worried about her little sister. She feels guilty for Sydney’s blindness because she feels she should have prevented the incident from happening. After Sydney’s eye surgery though, Helen really begins to worry about her younger sister’s mental and physical health. I believe Posey was excellent. Although she did not have major screen time, I believe she did much better than Alba. Alessandro Nivola plays Dr. Paul Faulkner. He befriends Sydney when she goes to meet him for an appointment, and he is also thrust into the horror of what Wells is able to see. Nivola played his role to perfection. He looked one hundred percent doctor from his disorderly hair to his unshaven cheeks. His acting was superb and satisfying. I enjoyed his character. The graphics for The Eye were top-notch. The monsters looked horrifying and realistic. All the creatures and ghosts throughout the movie looked as if they existed today and that itself made the movie scarier. The sound system was amazing as well. You could hear whispers and moans, and the occasional scream coming from everywhere at once. Unfortunately, the plot of the story was somewhat not original. You were able to predict what would happen next in some parts of the movie, and other parts were boring and unnecessary. Overall though, I have to say that even with a dull plot, the movie itself was pretty good. When I watched The Eye, I was scared in many parts. There are both suspenseful and humorous parts that I found appealing. Although the theatre was packed, the surround sound was superb. I enjoyed how the movie itself made you think, made you wonder what was happening and why it was happening. The movie itself was easy to follow, and a great pleasure to watch. This is the perfect movie to watch to get some chills and humor all at once. Overall, I would give the movie a 9 out 10.
