Club Profile: Knitting Club

By Radobice Fass

In an environment where virtually all conduct is socially acceptable, some teen hobbies are still peculiar enough to raise eyebrows; knitting is one of these. This eclectic hobby is no longer a fad of the past, and is slowly but surely is establishing a base at BR. Over the past two months, BR’s knitters have joined hands – and needles – in a common cause. Under the unfading, eternal and talented leadership of club president, sophomore Lydia House, and the club sponsor Mrs. Kelley, these students have put their talents to use in a charitable enterprise. Each club member is responsible for knitting squares that will be joined to form blankets for the elderly. These finished products will then be donated. Future plans involve making hats for patients in local hospitals undergoing chemotherapy. Although the club does offer free baked goods and a place to hang out in the morning, it’s this philanthropic aspect that draws most members. “Our purpose is to knit with passion, compassion, and fashion. We also want to help the community, one stitch at a time,” says House.
