By Raquel Luna

A new year brings new ideas. With a new sponsor, the Granger varsity cheerleaders want to bring out the Granger School spirit this upcoming year. They want everyone to be involved. To achieve this goal, the cheerleaders transform Granger School with themed pep rallies every Friday. Birth of a New Season – The Lions’ first game against the Johnson City Eagles on August 26 started the beginning of the new season. During the baby-themed pep rally, both Coach Bowling and Coach Fuentes were brought back to their toddler days. The two were dressed by their “parents,” football players Cody Williams and Preston Jimenez, then raced to finish their baby bottles. Grease the Bearcats – In preparation to take on the Moody Bearcats, the Lions were transported back in time. The 50’s hit the Lion campus Friday, September 2. Granger School mirrored Rydell High’s stunning cliques, the T-birds and the Pink Ladies. During the pep rally, Grease fever took over the whole student body as they along with their teachers jumped out of their seats to do the well-known Hand Jive. Also during the pep rally, one of our Granger parents, Susanna Scott, was awarded Mom of the Week by KVUE. Rock ’em Back to the 80’s – neon colors, and 80’s rock music and style filled the Granger halls throughout the day. Coaches delight (lead air singer Coach Pickerill, air drummer Coach Fuentes, and air guitarist Vice Principal Abbott) battled the ABCD band (students Reggie Royal, Susie Pineda and Ashley Freydenfehlt. The bands replicated a live Battle of the Bands as they air-jammed to 80”s rock music and energized the Granger students and faculty. The loud music pumped throughout the Lion football team’s veins as they left to face the Meridian Yellow Jackets. Wrangle the Tigers – At the start, the gym was silent and nothing was heard except for muffled chatter. As the music slowly poured out of the speakers, numerous boots hit the floor and sent the crowd into the famous copperhead road line dance. The sound of boots hitting the floor echoed through the gym, getting everyone excited, and making the whole Lion pride act as one. Students and faculty were perfectly dressed for the occasion in their best country attire to help “Wrangle the Tires.” It was the Lions’ first home game. The Lions were ready to face the Thrall Tigers.
