By Clara Nelson

SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN FOOTLOOSE, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 , OR PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4 . Footloose Footloose was the worst movie I have seen all year; hands down. I love dancing movies, don’t get me wrong. Chicago , Hairspray ... you name it; but I absolutely hated Footloose. First of all, where the heck was Kevin Bacon? He didn’t even have a cameo appearance! ALL I WANT IS KEVIN BACON. Wouldn’t it have been great if Kevin Bacon was Ariel Moore’s dad instead of Dennis Quaid? Wait. Nix that. I’m glad that Kevin Bacon didn’t embarrass himself that badly. Speaking of Ariel Moore, the actress, Julianne Hough, did a great job playing the part of the promiscuous, rebellious, wild teenager. And I hated it. On a scale of one to Paris Hilton, Julianne Hough ranked at about Miley Cyrus. Her character was much too wild for my taste. Speaking of wild, they raced busses. BUSSES. Giant, rectangular school busses. Who does that? I understand that Footloose is supposed to be all about “sticking it to the man,” but I think the producer took it a little too far. I did not like illegal activities popping up every five minutes. If I had a dime for each unsafe, illegal or tasteless thing portrayed in that movie I would be rich. It was pretty awesome when Julianne Hough’s character was yelled at by her dad though. She deserved it. Not to mention they only did the Footloose dance one time. At the end. For a few seconds. How dare they! I was looking forward to that part for the entire movie! If you’re going to make a remake, you can’t cut out the best part of the original! I was unimpressed and disappointed. One star. Paranormal Activity 3 Paranormal Activity 3 gave me the creeps. I was shaking in my boots from the beginning. Let me start by saying that I watched the first Paranormal Activity my sophomore year while I had chronic bronchitis and was on prescription codeine. So aside from falling asleep every few minutes, my brain also didn’t process everything correctly and it made me 150% more scared than I would have been if I had been in good health. I watched the second Paranormal Activity in theaters on Halloween 2010 with friends. I was so scared that I screamed in the theater. It was extremely embarrassing. But hey, I was terrified. Needless to say, I was scared before I got to the theater to see Paranormal Activity 3 (on Halloween), so it automatically made the movie more horrifying. The movie started and I wanted to cry. The suspense was the worst part. Waiting for the action to pick up was horrible. That’s how they produced the other two Paranormal Activities though, so I knew it was coming. Even though I have seen all of the movies, the fact that there is no music in the background is still kind of eerie. After waiting for the scary stuff to start happening, I realized that the movie wasn’t actually that good. Sure it was scary, but the plot line wasn’t very well written. A lot of key components weren’t explained as much as I wanted them to be. For example, the old ladies. Who were they? Where did they come from? Why were they in their shed? Why did they need to kill all of the family members (brutally, I might add)? All of these questions were running through my head and then BOOM the movie ended. Do I see a Paranormal Activity 4 on the horizon? Three stars. Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Oh, where do I start? I was extremely excited for this movie. I love pirates. Come on, who doesn’t like a good sword fight scene? I guess I should have watched the trailer before I showed up to the theater because I was unpleasantly surprised by the fact that Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly weren’t in the movie. Contrary to Robert Stephens, another member of the Timberline staff, I think that their characters were important to the Pirates Saga. You can’t just get rid of two main characters! Yes, Johnny Depp can carry a movie by himself, but that doesn’t mean that you can drop everyone else. Pirates 4 turned into a spin-off, and as with most other spin-offs, it just didn’t cut it. On a positive note, the graphics were awesome. The mermaids were so cool. They were fierce! Can you imagine swimming in the ocean one day and being dragged to the bottom by a mermaid? A MERMAID?! I don’t know about you, but when I think of a mermaid, I think of The Little Mermaid , as in Ariel the hoarder whose best friend is a flounder. So the movie’s take on mermaids was a nice surprise. I also enjoyed Penelope Cruz’s role as Johnny Depp’s bad-girl love interest. I appreciated the historical accuracy of the search for the Fountain of Youth. That was pretty epic. Four stars.
