By Savannah Peña

It’s 2012, and a junior has taken over! This year has higher and greater goals for us. You may know it or you may not. Expect a good year this year and hopefully whatever president we have makes good choices and help us out. Let’s recap the year 2011; last year everyone in school met new friends, greeted old ones, cried over something important, and made someone smile. Am I right? 2011 for me was so emotional. I handled problems head on and got over them. Forgive and forget, that is my motto; others may think that way also. Enough with the recap for 2011; and look into the future or better yet now. February 2012 is starting! Is it love in the air that is making us anxious? Probably, yes. Valentine’s Day is nearing and balloons, chocolates, and stuffed animals will be everywhere. What are you getting for your girlfriend or boyfriend or even your friends? Valentine’s Day isn’t all for couples in love. Nope; it’s also for friends that love each other, you know as friends. You wanted to show them that you care about them and you could be there when they need it or something. Am I right? It’s also about family love. Show love towards your parents; siblings, that’s if you have any; to your aunts and uncles and even cousins or nieces and nephews. If you have children, love them with all your heart! And don’t forget your grandparents! For me, I don’t have that special someone in my life just yet but my family is my Valentine and always will be. All your family is your Valentine’s, am I right? After Valentine’s Day is St. Patrick’s Day; go green!! March is the best month for most people and Easter is in April; so that holiday doesn’t count right now. Why? I’m speaking, more like typing, about St. Patrick’s Day not Easter. I’ve never seen a Leprechaun hopping around giving four-leaf clovers to young children! Have you? I mean how weird would that will be? Seeing a small man, wearing a green suit hopping around handing you a four leaf-clover! This isn’t Lucky Charms!! Anyway, Easter is April 8. That means a four-day holiday! How fun is it about breaking colored eggs on someone’s head. It’s the only time you can hit someone with a cascaron and not get in trouble for it! Ha! Also, splash everyone with ice cold water. How fun is that? Man, I just wish my cousins were here for this Easter. We did some crazy things during that holiday; eventually we got in trouble but it was worth it! Anyhow, what’s after Easter? Hm… April’s Fool? No that’s before Easter. Well, anyways, whatever holiday it be sure to wish is the best!! Lately I have been writing a lot about Laredo and its festivals and whatnot. Who’s ready for upcoming festivals? I am! Even though our first print issue will be late this year, we will eventually have festivals to celebrate, like the Hispanic Heritage Festival or the 16 de septembre, and others which right now escape my mind. Either way, I am ready for them! Jeez, talk about weather in Laredo! I know I’m going off topic, but I need to talk about this! At first it was cold now sunny and warm and then it’s raining! Okay it wasn’t raining more like a drizzle. Still it’s rain! What’s up with that Laredo?! Are you somewhat bi-polar on weather? It figures, but we get use to it living here. Am I right?
