Here are some of the things that I have learned as a high school student while I get ready to vote for the first time. As we started off with the reception for Senator Hatch we were in the County Commissioner Chambers office. I had the opportunity to ask the Senator questions. One of the first questions asked to Senator Hatch was term limits and if he should be there? He said if we want to make a difference we need to get republicans voted in to office, who have experience in leadership that can help the senate. He has the chance to be the chairman over the finance committee, and he is endorsed by Mitt Romney. With that experience he feels he would be a great help for Utah and for our country. Senator Hatch also addressed how to get more money for education, and his plan would be take back much of the land that the federal government has taken over in Utah. Governor Herbert along with the other Republican Candidates met at the Juab County Fair Grounds. I had the opportunity to interview Governor Herbert. I found him to be a humble down to earth individual who had the genuine interest to help Utah be successful. He said, “teenagers need to take an activate role in voting and knowing the different problems that face our state.” As the economy has begun to grow Utah has been able to put more money into education. He also said that higher education in Utah still has some of the lowest tuition cost in the country, but it has continued to rise this year. The government was able to put in 56 million dollars into education this year. I was excited for the future because our leaders care about education, and what they are doing to continue to keep Utah the great state it is.
