By Kianna Sisco

On Saturday, May 12, Cedar Ridge held its annual Junior-Senior Prom. However, unlike previous years, prom was held at the Millennium Hotel in Durham instead of the Mebane Arts Center. Students arrived at the Millennium decked in beautiful gowns, both long and short, and dashing tuxedos. Peacock feathers, blue lights, and blue “Prom 2012” key chains adorned the ballroom as the peacock theme took center stage for 2012. Prom committee members also ensured that delicious appetizers and drinks were provided for guests. The music boomed and the dance floor rocked as students packed the ballroom for a night of fun. Several dance-offs took place between various students. Near the end of the night, Kris Watkins and Patsy Williams were crowned as this year’s prom king and queen. “I was excited and shocked at the same time,” said Williams. This year, rather than a typical slow dance, Watkins and Williams led the dance floor in the Cupid Shuffle. “I was surprised because I didn’t think anyone was going to vote for me,” said Watkins. As the night came to an end, the DJ played “We Are Young” by Fun and everyone rushed the dance floor one last time. This year’s prom was a night to remember thanks to the staff and prom committee at Cedar Ridge.
