Tell-tale signs of crushing

By Tim McVey

What is crushing? Crushing is the art of flirting without, and sometimes with, being noticed. So, why do people crush?
“Well, it’s got to be looks primarily,” Bobby Lombardo said, “That’s what draws you to a girl, and then you can get to know her.”
Some people think that crushing is shallow, but it something that everyone feels.
“It is totally natural for people to feel affection toward a person,” Tom Strawser said, “Looks have to attract a person, but personality is the kicker.”
Crushing can actually lead to more in-depth relations with a person. It’s really weird how a shallow crush can lead to something great.
“I was at this party, and I was going to ask this girl for help on asking another girl out,” Strawser said. “She said ‘Why don’t you ask me out?’ and I said, ‘sure, I guess.”’
What Strawser didn’t know it that the girl that he had asked out, turned out to be his wife. Junior Eric Burris was looking for love, and he found it in the form of a young lady.
“I was really crushing on this girl, but she was dating another guy,” Burris said. So, he turned on the charm, and Burris dated the girl for a while.
“Yeah, the guy thought he was tough, but I out-toughed him!” Burris exclaimed. “That crush turned out well.”
Sometimes, when people crush, it doesn’t turn out so well.
“I was really crushing for this girl because she was hot,” Strawser said, “I really liked her, and I found the courage to ask her to a dance. She turned me down, and I felt bad, but I got over it.”
Girls, if a guy is crushing on you, you can find out by this check list:
1. Does he go out of his way to talk to you?
2. Does he joke about liking you? He could be covering ulterior motives.
3. Does he mess with you or push you, jokingly?
Guys, girls are harder to get caught crushing, but here are some signs:
1. Does she talk to you a lot?
2. Does she hit you playfully or run into you? (She could be trying to find anyway to touch you.)
3. Does she laugh and giggle uncontrollably at anything you say?
Crushing “tactics” range from talking about the girl constantly to dropping hints to getting a friend to talk to the girl and ask if she likes you. Ultimately, these “tactics” tend not to work.
Crushing may seem shallow, but it is natural to be too nervous to ask the person out. But, don’t be shy, ask the person out! What’s the worst that could happen?
