By Lisa Danford

Sophomore Brooke Areledge lines up at the starting line and waits for the light to turn green.

For sophomore Brooke Arledge, drag racing is not a dream but a reality.
Arledge began drag racing after watching her father race for nine years. She has been a member of the Arledge Family Racing team for three years. She feels her family and best friend, sophomore Jasmeaka Johnson, are her biggest fans because they are always there to support her.
Arledge’s “Hot Bangin’ Super Sexy Raspberry Dream Machine” flies from 0 to 83 mph in just 7.9 seconds.
“There is really no method or technique to winning,” Arledge said. “Your car needs to be consistent.” In sports, practice makes perfect. In drag racing, there is no practice but the two time trials before your race.
Traveling across Ohio, she races almost every weekend from April to October. Even with her busy schedule, Arledge is still able to maintain her school work and be a cheerleader, which she also enjoys very much.
Although drag racing may seem rare for a girl, Arledge says there are almost as many girls as there are boys on the track, and her favorite part of racing is winning and beating the boys.
