By Evan Owens-2008

As you may have noticed, the pep-fest on Friday, April 15th did not have anything to do with athletic related activities as every other pep-fest in the history of Cannon Falls High School has. Amy Dombek, head of the student council, came up with the idea for a new type of pepfest during a conference meeting with other teachers. She thought that there were extremely talented students that were not being recognized and should be. The other teachers agreed and this prompted the student council to plan the event. Dombek mentioned two students, Elizabeth Piene and Michelle McCoy as doing a lot towards the planning of the art-fest. McCoy states, “Our goal [with the art-fest] was to recognize other groups that aren’t sports.” This goal was received positively by the teachers and faculty whocommented that the students cooperated and were well behaved. Kayla Nygaard seems to sum up the opinion of most the students by saying, “It was awesome!” But there have been differing responses by some, such as Cynthia Thornburn, who comments, “It was nice to acknowledge the students involved in non-athletic activities, but it could have been better if all the spring activities were incorporated into one pep-fest so that no one group is singled out.” Even so Dombek is definitely going to continue the art-fest next year and is even thinking of changing it into some sort of “variety show” with more things such as skits from the spring musical. All in all the new art-fest was considered a success and will hopefully be continued for many years to come.
