By Ashley Renshaw

James Blunt, of the United Kingdom, is becoming the newest pop sensation in the United States. His first single, “You’re Beautiful”, off his debut album Back to Bedlam, has melted the hearts of females across the world. The melodies of the piano and guitar flow brilliantly alongside the sensitive lyrics. Each of the songs is able to spark emotion and tug at your heart strings. The best example of this on the album is “No Bravery”. This is one of the most depressing songs I have ever heard, but the way the entire piece comes together also makes it one of the most exquisite. “Cry” is another passionate, heartfelt song on the CD. However, not every song from Back to Bedlam is a ballad. “So Long Jimmy” is a funky, upbeat tune with almost a jazz feel to it. “Out of My Mind” has insightful lyrics with a catchy up-tempo chorus. Every song on this album is exceptional and unique from anything I have listened to in the past. Blunt writes music that his audience can relate to, which makes him one of the more sincere artists around today. His lyrics are raw and real. Each of his songs tells a distinctive story, which is most evident in “Billy”, my favorite song on the album. Back to Bedlam is rapidly rising up the music charts, and also being featured on television. His song “Tears and Rain” was included on NBC’s new crime drama “Conviction”. Blunt also performed on an episode of ABC Family’s “Wildfire”, along with various talk shows. His March 18 show at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston sold out very quickly. Blunt has had many interesting life experiences and careers, which eventually led him to music. He has studied Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering, fought wars in Kosovo, and even guarded the Queen at Buckingham Palace before recording this album. One can tell how these experiences have greatly affected his life by paying close attention to the intuitive lyrics. Blunt has a tremendous passion and talent for writing and performing. One can be positive that he will be around for years to come. Back to Bedlam has been in my CD player ever since I purchased it. I just cannot get enough of these magnificent songs. If you have not already checked out James Blunt’s music, you must rush out immediately to buy his album.
