By Lauren Ainsley

Tax season is here once again and can be entitled as the most dreaded time of the year for billions of Americans. Yet, tax season is still one of those “Important dates” on our calendars. Income tax systems have been said to be inredibly complex, with many forms, tiresome recordkeeping, and detailed, endless instructions. Perspectives of income taxes around the world have been given by political scientists, theorists, and econimists. There are many ways to pay off taxes, and certain hints to get by stressful encounters with tax employees and papers. One can guess that the more money one makes, the more taxes one will have to pay, and the less one will make the less taxes one will have to pay. However, even if you are a billionare, there are simple ways to go about paying off taxes within a small amount of time. Tax rates can be either regressive, progressive, or flat. An H & R Block tax employee in Corpus Christi stated that income prices this year have not escalated, but are approximately the same as last year. This allows for less adjustments for the company, because a system is already set for customers. This year, even though income tax prices have not altered, each and every tax payer must face the toils of preparation with their tax employer. Having all paperwork and receipts at hand are significantly helpful in the process. [Tax payers] should make sure they fill out their paperwork the right way. You are basically supposed to take out atleast ten percent of what your total growth salary is,” an H & R block tax employee said. “If this fails to happen, tax payers end up owing the IRS.” Tax payers encountering problems along the way is inevitable, and one of the difficulties they have is underpaying and witholding taxes. Along with these difficulties, many find it hard to send in W-2’s, which are forms in which the employer provides to tax payers holding their taxes witheld and annual information. “Not only do payers have a problem with sending in W-2’s, but many generally do not pay in enough taxes, as well as not knowing the logic behind claiming exemptions and not claiming exemptions,” an H & R tax employee said. Income taxes have certainly become a yearly tradition for some students at Flour Bluff. Senior, John Egan, has been paying his own income taxes for the past two years, and he finds the whole process particularly fast and less complicated than it seems. Being a student has its benefits when income tax paying is involved. Senior, John Egan, has been paying his own income taxes for the past two years, and finds the whole process particularly fast and less complicated than it seems. Being a student certainly has its benefits when income tax paying is involved. “[Income tax paying] is pretty easy if you’re a student, because instead of using the regular 10-40 [which is the basic form you file with the IRS], you get to use the 10-40 easy, if you earn under a certain amount,” Egan said. “When you’re paying federal income tax, the government pretty much gives it all back to you in the end.” Sure, we all want to pay taxes in five minutes online, because we think it’s faster, but it has been said that the accuracy of tax information lessens when online, because of many risks of entering the wrong information. You certainly have to know what you’re doing. “Our part-time tax workers are busy all year round because of the fact that people make errors on online tax returns,” an H&R Block tax employee said. The many options of tax companies for aid in tax preparation are sure to help in income tax payments, with their experienced tax employees, and step-by-step guidance. “The advice I would give to anyone paying income taxes is to call a tax service, and they’ll walk you through it, because that’s what I did my first time,” Egan said. Not only is online information input risky, but payers should beware of frauds as well. Online income tax scams are common all over the United States. “Although I haven’t seen any scams at all this year, there have been many in the past,” an H&R Block employee said. “Our business does try to keep [its employess] updated on the occurences of scams to the best of their ability.” Overall, being aware of IRS updates and benefits before paying taxes is crucial, because missing out on advantages would not help with prices of taxes this year. Payers should be aware of their individual tax rights, because they may be fortunate to receive credit from certain tax clinics.
