By Carolyn Volk

Lindsay Lohan stars in the 1998

version of The Parent Trap.KRT

PHOTOGRAPH BY LOREY SEBASTIAN/

WALT DISNEY PICTURES

New movies are popping up in the box offices faster than ever, making it difficult to make decisions on what movie to see. Surprise comes when the movie selected is announced, and a parent or adult says, “Oh I remember that movie!” It turns out that many popular movies coming out today are actually remakes of movies made in past generations. Cheaper by the Dozen, The Stepford Wives, The Parent Trap, Superman, The Dukes of Hazzard, King Kong, and Freaky Friday are just a few of the dozens of movie remakes. Remaking a movie is risky business. When new movie remakes come out, some tend to think they’re better than the old ones just because they are newer and the film quality is better. Yet in certain cases, the old ones should have been left alone. Classic movies are hard to remake well. Today’s generation is swamped with these new movies and celebrities, so sometimes, the newest version is all people acknowledge. A good example of this can be seen in a very popular movie starring a certain popular red-headed girl. This movie is The Parent Trap, starring Lindsay Lohan. Girls wanted to be just like Hallie and Annie. The original, however, was made 37 years prior. Hayley Mills stole the hearts of people in the 60s, just as Lohan did in the 90s.
