By Loni Latour

I have yet to come across a bad Reese Witherspoon movie. Just Like Heaven is a prime example of Witherspoon at her best. This romantic comedy directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls), is Witherspoon’s first movie out this year. Witherspoon plays Doctor Elizabeth Martinson, a work-a-holic up for a promotion, who lacks a social life. After an accident though, her spirit is forced to live, well haunt, a more leisurely life. Coincidentally, David Abott (Mark Ruffalo, 13 Going On 30) comes across Elizabeth’s apartment and moves in. David, the only person who can see Elizabeth, then begins to believe that he is being haunted by a dead spirit. After countless attempts at “exorcising” Elizabeth’s spirit, David comes across Daryl (Jon Heder, Napoleon Dynamite), who works at a book store of the unexplained paranormal. David with the help of his psychologist and friend Jack (Donal Logue, Runaway Bride), try to reunite Elizabeth’s soul with her body. This movie was very well done in all aspects of a film. The actors did an amazing job conveying the situation of an invisible spirit, especially Rufallo who while “possessed” must fight himself. The only problem with the movies believability is the fact that one minute Elizabeth could walk through doors, even a table, but yet could sit on a bench or in a truck. The plot is very well put together and a cute story line. The trailer is misleading though as to the death of Elizabeth, but makes for a very good twist in the plot. Just Like Heaven was a very well written movie, and was wonderful to watch. It’s a hilarious movie for anyone who is in the mood for a heartwarming comedy.
