By Jenna Wolfsohn

Recently, the world has met front of change. Over the past sixteen years, the world has made some incredible alterations. Back in 1995, Polly Pocket was the size of a dime, now you can dress her up in rubbery clothes at her giant height of 3 inches.
It is not just Polly who’s been “super-sized.” In 1970, the average home was about 1,400 square feet, and in 2004 became 2,330 square feet (Information Please, 2007). The average family size was and is about 3 people so apparently everyone needs to accommodate for the 32% of American adults who are obese. So while the minimum wage has increased, so have portion sizes and how much space taken up in the world by the human population.
Change can be positive as well. The growth in average square footage indicates that people are living a more prosperous lifestyle (which they can’t necessarily afford). Women have become more prominent in the career world and scientists have been making headway towards a greener tomorrow and less fossil fuel consumption.
Also, America has broken the social norm by electing the first African American president in the US. The first woman ran for VP and brought the “beehive” back in all its glory along with “sexy career girl glasses” and finally, Tina Fey’s shining presence on SNL.
Everyone always is immersed in change. The seasons change, people change, and the world will change, music changes. Bob Dylan said it best: “Oh the times, they are a changing.”
