Jorgenson Plans Jammin’ Fundraiser

By Emily Nikolaus

Jammin for Haiti raised over $6,000

More than excited cheers could be heard from outside the Arrowhead gym, last Friday as student bands and singers prepared for the Jammin’ for Haiti benefit concert. Besides entertaining music lovers, the concert was put on to raise money for the earthquake victims in Haiti. Juniors Allie Jorgenson and Nick Schoenheider planned “Jammin’ for Haiti.” Schoenheider’s idea of a benefit concert and Jorgenson’s ability to organize were a perfect match for this fundraising feat. “It was so fresh in everyone’s mind and we both wanted to do something to help. We didn’t really have a set amount we wanted to reach, because at this point anything helps,” says Jorgenson. The Show, Myles Wangerin, and Szep Alma preformed to raise money for the cause. Foreign exchange students Praab Leelyaduth and Stefano Buldrini sang a duet, while Ali Mayer sang solo. Rather than just playing for Haiti, The Show made their own contribution. The band sold their CD’s for $1 and also donated the profit to the Red Cross. “We wanted to do more to help besides playing at the concert. It felt good to be able to contribute anyway we could,” says senior band member Augie Menos. The tickets into the concert were red wristbands that said “Hope for Haiti.” There are 450 wristbands left over. Jorgenson and Mr.Fox, owner of the Hartland Piggly Wiggly, are discussing selling the remaining bands at the local grocery store. The $7,000 raised by the Jammin’ for Haiti is being donated to the Red Cross for their assistance in Haiti. “It’s really nice to have the support of the community when you’re trying to do something like this. By all the money we were able to raise, I can tell we definitely had their support,” says Jorgenson.
