By Carrie Fichter and Dean Drescher

Queen Caroline Branch and her escort Lee Browne, greet the crowd after exiting the castle

Mario, Luigi and Yoshi successfully completed all the levels for Queen of Hearts and saved the court from the evil Bowser. Despite inclement weather, the senior class managed to work through all hours of the night and in the snow to transform the Holliday Gym into Super Mario Land. The diversity of the entertainment at the assembly reached all students and helped make the assembly enjoyable. The slapstick comedy of the senior skit was welcomed along with the video game sound effects that correlated with this year’s theme. The assembly, lighting and decorations made the dance even more enjoyable. This year’s Queen of Hearts was in high attendance, selling an unusually high number of tickets. “I had to rush to get tickets this year because it was ultra-competitive and the juniors who get everything could bring off campus dates,” senior Laura Stidham said. Everyone was dressed to the nines. Even the Broughton faculty in their formal wear were memorable events. The music supplied by the band successfully kept all the students dancing. “I thought the band was the highlight of the evening. Their tunes really had me grooving,” junior JB Weaver said. With the beautiful decorations, the exciting assembly and the large number of students in attendance, Queen of Hearts was a resounding success. “I was proud of the student council, the advisors and the school as a whole. The conduct and quality of every aspect from the vision, construction and performances of the student body. Furthermore I feel that Queen of Hearts is the best tradition at Broughton,” senior advisor, Dr. Scott Kennedy said.
