As the prom comes again, an issue, which has been settled the same way each time, arises. Allowing underclassmen to the prom is a tough decision; there are quite a few gray areas present in the argument to allow and to forbid them from the coveted dance. We believe that underclassmen should not be allowed to attend. Here lies the gray area in the argument; we don’t believe that underclassmen should be allowed to attend by themselves or by taking another freshman or sophomore. Despite this, we don’t think upperclassmen should have to attend by themselves just for the reason that they are dating an underclassmen. It’s a tough decision, but we believe the school is making the correct choice with their current policy. The editorial board’s argument to not allow freshmen and sophomores is that our current upperclassmen waited their turn to attend, and changing the policy now would make is just like any other dance. We agree that it would make it less special for them at the prom. Prom is a privilege earned through age and is not a right a student simply deserves. ]]> Mon, 01 Jun 2009 13:15:56 GMT
