With school coming to an end, it’s time for some of the 2009 summer movies to approach. With popcorn in hand, flocking to take seats at the theater, kids are prepared for a movie that will blow their socks off. The 2001 hit, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” Harry found out he was a wizard. Potter is back for his sixth movie from the best selling book series. July 15, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” arrives in theaters. The New York Times calls it “a far darker tale than the others.” For those who would like something a little bit friendlier, “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” with the voices of Ray Romano and Queen Latifah comes to town July 1. Some of the favorite characters return with their witty ways like Scrat, who is still trying to hold on to his acorn. “G-Force,” is sure to make kids jump out of their seats. A movie about a specially trained squad of guinea pigs that are dispatched to stop a diabolical billionaire from taking over the world. Nicolas Cage is the voice of Speckles, one of the many guinea pigs in the movie. Action packed and some laughs should be in store this summer as the long anticipated second Transformers movie hits theaters. “Revenge of the Fallen,” opens June 24. Decepticon forces return to Earth on a mission to take Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) prisoner, after he learns the truth about the ancient origins of the Transformers. Joining the mission to protect humankind is Optimus Prime, who forms an alliance with international armies for a second epic battle,” according to IMDb. If laughs are more your style then “I Love You, Beth Cooper,” should keep you smiling throughout the whole movie. “A nerdy valedictorian proclaims his love for the most popular girl in school, Beth Cooper (Hayden Panettiere), during his graduation speech. Much to his surprise, Beth shows up at his door that very night and decides to show him the best night of his life,” according to IMDb. This movie comes to theaters on July 10. Jack Black gives moviegoers a blast from the past in “Year One.” Yes, it is true Jack Black is on his way to the big screen again for a hilarious new flick with co-star Michael Cera, whom you might recognize from “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” or “Juno.” They portray two hunter-gatherers who are kicked out of their primitive village. Not knowing what to do next, Zed (Jack Black) and Oh (Michael Cera) decide to travel to find the meaning of life. On their journey, they encounter many interesting people—including Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, and Abraham. The movie premiers June 19. For those of you who prefer to go to the movies with a tissue in hand, “My Sister’s Keeper” hits theaters June 26. There are many well-known faces in this best-selling book-turned-movie like Abigail Breslin. Breslin plays Anna, a harvest child who was genetically engineered to help her older sister Kate, who has leukemia, by giving her blood and bone marrow. When Kate finds out that she needs a kidney, the only person in the family who is a match is Anna. Refusing to give Kate her kidney, Anna hires a lawyer for the rights to her own body. Hollywood saves most of its popular blockbusters for the summer. Whether its tears, laughs or action you want they all try to pull you in. This summer don’t just see a movie, be in the movie.
