Varsity baseball hoping to improve from last year

On March 7th, the 2011 varsity baseball season went underway in the high school gymnasium. Although the team had a poor season last year, they are hoping to improve their record. The team has 7 returning starters from last year: John Donner, Danny Clark, Danny Encao, Cal Andrews, Jack Meyer, and Kolby Rhyner. Cal, Jack, and Danny Encao are the only seniors on the team this year and are looking forward to the senior game later on in the season. They are hoping that the seniors provide them with good leadership while the returning starters, having played varsity last year, can provide give the team the experience it needs to be a team to watch out for this season. With no JV team this year, there are 23 players trying out for varsity baseball, many of which being sophomores. When asked which game he was looking most forward to this season, Danny Clark said their first game of the season, which is against Harley Allendale Columbia on April 1st, the whole team is looking forward to get the season started. The team had some open gyms in the weeks prior to March 7th to get the team back into the baseball mood following their winter sports. Good luck varsity baseball!
