The fourth graders in the Gorham School have been reading The Landry News by Andrew Clements. This book has inspired the class to make their own school newspaper. The Landry News is about a girl named Cara who writes her own newspaper. Her newspaper is a typical one that includes top stories, sports, comics and puzzles. Along with reading The Landry News , they have been learning about the First Amendment rights, specifically Freedom of the Press. The students were also educated by Mr. Gutterman from the Tully Center at Syracuse University. Mr. Gutterman was their guest speaker and informed them about his job and what he did as a reporter. The students were fascinated as they found out he has been all around the world. They are anxious and excited for their next guest speaker Mary Evans, who is the Board of Education President. The students are thrilled to be a part of such a great project and look forward to finishing their own newspaper.
