By Editorial

With a new school year, Scout would officially like to welcome all students and faculty members to a productive and valuable school year. For freshmen, this year marks the beginning of secondary education and the continuing pursuit of knowledge. For graduating seniors, an end to high school is made, but steps to the future are made also. The goals of Scout are best summed up in the words of the journalism department’s mission statement: “The purpose of the Lake Central publications staffs is to inform and represent the community, particularly students, in an accurate, professional, and ethical manner.” It was Eleanor Roosevelt who said, “With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.” Seventeen of the twenty-eight Scout staff members are new to the paper. They are dedicated to informing the community and can be trusted to do their job accurately. For the sake of these new members, we ask that our readers view us objectively. We ask to make our own impression; judge us as we are, not as our predecessors were. Scout is, simply put, under new management. We’re running the paper differently, and we ask for your wholehearted cooperation. We do our best to report on the community, but only with the community’s help can we get the job done effectively. Abraham Lincoln said it best when he declared, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Scout wishes all the best to its readers in this new school year.
