By Sabrina Robsinson (Staff Reporter)

He is seen around regularly at SLz, He rides a bike and is seen frequently cracking jokes and making conversation with students. Bill Regan is a permanent substitute on the SLz campus for the 2007-2008 school year. Regan has been teaching for seven years in the San Lorenzo Unified School District. Before he worked with the UCSF and Stanford Medical Center with C.T.D.N [California transplant donor network]. He grew up in Boston in a, Irish family of five, mom, dad, and two sisters. He attended Catholic schools where they were very strict and traditional. What he likes about his job here at SLz is the camaraderie with other students, the friendship from meeting different people. “My life is very typical for someone my age, going through life with one foot in the grave and the other on a bananapeel,” Regan said. Regan may be seen as out spoken and laid back. He is usually seen walking around the campus with a smile and laughing at different conversations he has with students and staff. “I like working with the students and seeing them in a sense grow up. I’ve had most students since the sixth grade. It’s great seeing students walk around here developing into more mature people and witnessing the growth students make through high school,” Regan said. One of the perks about teaching is that he gets to meet so many different students and keep in touch with students he substituted for since middle school, witnessing how much students have grown and changed through out the years. “Another thing I also enjoy about teaching is the connection with youth, and in the same reconnecting with my own,” Regan said. Regan is a substitute students like having. His ways of substituting seem to be affective among students. Staff seem to also spend some time with him in the office and seem to like him also and see his educated side. “He knows a little about everything, and is very bright,” main office secretary Linda Jones said. People seem to really like Regan because of his conversations and his personality he has. Not only do students seem to be fond of him but also is the staff on campus. “He’s interesting because he’s a really laid back teacher, but at the same time everyone gets their work done,” Senior Wesley Leonard said. Students like him and seem open to him because of his friendly personality. His tactics to teaching is affective with students and some find that interesting about him. “Most students find Mr. Regan really interesting because he’s different than other substitutes. He likes to talk to the students and try to get them more involved rather then just reading the plans,” Junior Shante Peevy said. Students seem to like Regan because of his different techniques of teaching. With different ways of teaching as a substitute, seems to be the reason he is well liked at SLz.
