By Deidre Clark

The boys tennis team played their last match on April 9. The team has been working hard since February in order to finish with a season they are proud of.
Many of the boys on the team have long histories of playing tennis.
“[I started playing tennis] at birth,” senior and varsity tennis player Josh Rogers said. “I was just born into it.”
The prior experience of some of the boys and the team’s constant practices enabled the team to have a good season.
“[We practice] three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday,” senior and varsity tennis player Jeff Benson said. “We have matches on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”
The team faced some difficult competitors throughout the season.
“Centennial is ranked number 1,” sophomore Jeff Crosby said. “They were a tough school to play.”
This season the team also worked hard to improve the skills of their younger members.
“We had a lot of younger players who hadn’t played before,” Benson said. “[We were] working and helping them so they could get better.”
The team also focused on the individual improvements of the players.
“[The biggest thing the team has been working on] is more individual,” Crosby said. “Everyone is working on different things.”
Rogers feels the team’s hard work has paid off and is happy with the way the season went.
“I am ecstatic about how [our season] has gone,” Rogers said.
As a sophomore, Crosby is focusing on what the team can work on for next year.
“[The biggest thing we need to improve is] our confidence and mentality of winning.”
