By Tiffanie Riess

Tiffanie Riess: What was your experience at the HOSA competition? Aida Arias: My experience was fantastic, because you get to meet new people from all over the state and you get to strengthen the bond of your own HOSA club at school by hanging out with each other and getting stuck in an elevator. TR: What did you compete in during the HOSA competition? AA: For both years that I was in HOSA, I competed in Career Health Display, which is where you research a specific career and you talk about it to the judges. You must be very descriptive and be very creative. TR: How long have you been involved with HOSA? AA: (I have) been involved two years with HOSA. TR: Why did you join HOSA? AA: I joined HOSA because of a friend – Christina Lam – and I also thought it would be interesting. TR: How do you think HOSA will help accomplish your career goal? AA: I want to be a clinical/child psychologist working at St. Josephs Hospital. And HOSA will help me with that goal by what I have obtained as a person. I have learned leadership skills and dedication through HOSA by competing in the competitions. TR: Would you recommend other students to join HOSA? AA: Yes, I do recommend other students to join HOSA, because you have a lot of fun and you learn more things about yourselves that you did not even know. TR: You are graduating soon. What experiences or lessons you learned from HOSA will you take away with you as you enter the real world? AA: Dedication, responsibilities, failure is not an option and always believe in yourself (from Mark Scharenbroich the DECA state conference 2011 keynote speaker).
