By Rebecca Graves, De’onna Balboa

Did you ever want to learn about soccer? Intramural soccer is very popular here at OLHMS, so we interviewed Mrs. McCarthy who coaches intramural soccer to learn more about the sport. The average amount of people on a soccer team is eleven. The amount of points you make from a goal is one point. Mrs. McCarthy has been playing soccer since she was in middle school and still does now every Sunday. She also said that soccer is a very physical sport because it involves slide tackling, kicking and a lot of running. When asked what she likes most about soccer, she replied, "I like all sports that require teamwork. The best thing about soccer is that you can have a diverse group of people come together and enjoy the game. You can communicate throughout the game without even talking to each other." This is what she thinks her students like about soccer: "I think the students like hanging out with their friends, learning new skills, and running in the warm weather. She said the best way to practice soccer is "Just get a ball and start kicking it around. If you're by yourself, you can kick the ball off the wall. Practice using your feet as much as possible." Even though it takes a lot of practice, Mrs. McCarthy feels anyone can get better at soccer and enjoy the game!
