Edline: A Parental Leash For Teens

http://my.hsj.org/schools/newspaper/tabid/100/view/frontpage/schoolid/1450/articleid/282740/edline_a_parental_leash_for_teens.aspx

By Arya Singh

the edline homepage

Edline is great preparation for college because professors won't tell you what grade you have in their class but will update a university-wide Website to tell you your grade and it is soley up to you to change it. But Edline has branched out from just students. Parents have gotten hold of Edline and are using it to constantly check up on their teens so they know when to drill them and when to be lax with them on their education. Some students are no longer using Edline because parents have become their alarm for grades. Edline tracks your absences, missing work and your overall grade for the classes you take. If you miss one assignment this website gives your parents an e-mail update and license to keep you on lock down until the next update when it's again ok for you to be let out of jail. Edline, at some points, does not let teachers update either. At times, teachers try to put in the grades but the computer glitches or the program messes up and either the wrong grade gets put in or it doesn't upload at all. These glitches make students suffer at home with the constant nagging of their parents and cause them to commit truancy and essentially run away from what they are supposed to and need to do to achieve in life. Edline causes parental state of emergency and could pressure students into things that normally they wouldn't do. Edline was made for the student, lets leave it for the student.
