Throughout the week of Halloween clubs such as Interact, National Honor Society and Thespians have been volunteering at different events. Boo at the Zoo took place on Sat. 25, National Honor Society helped out at the event. Over 6,300 people attended the event.

The Halloween season is not just about getting candy. Various clubs are giving back to the community by volunteering at different seasonal events. One event most people knew about was Boo at the Zoo which National Honor Society volunteered at. Boo at the Zoo took place at the Topeka Zoo on Sat. 25 from 10 to 2 p.m. Hundreds of kids in the Topeka area walked around the zoo to see the animals and visit different stations for various businesses around Topeka. Most businesses had candy that they gave to the kids. Over 6,300 people attended the event. “[We volunteered] at various business stations. Just where ever they needed us” National Honor Society sponsor Robin Corbin said. “Some students wanted to help with their parent’s station.” Along with National Honor Society, Interact is also helping out for the season. “We are having a Halloween party at the Boys and Girls Club,” senior Anna Telthorst said. “We will be doing crafts and decorating cookies.” Interact is planning on having the party the week of Halloween. “We try and do it as close to Halloween as possible,” Telthorst said. “It is normally up to what works for them.” The weekend of Oct. 17 Interact also helped at the Sock Hop at Jay Shideler Elementary School. “Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat is what the event is called,” senior Gabby Ventucci said. “We are splitting up into groups and collecting cans.” The students are going to their own neighborhoods, this is taking place this afternoon. ]]> Wed, 29 Oct 2008 14:04:00 GMT
