By Kayla Morgan

Personal Profile on Laurie Morgan By: Kayla Morgan My interview was with Laurie Morgan, she is a nurse at the Bend St. Charles and she works in the Cardiac Care unit. The first question that I asked her was what made you want to be a nurse? Laurie’s reply was “My older sister was a nurse and she would tell me what she did at work, about the patients she took care of, and she inspired me to want to become a nurse.” Then I asked Laurie what unit she worked in at the hospital? Her answer was the Immediate Medical Care Unit (IMCU) but mostly the Cardiac Care Unit. My next question was what she enjoyed most about her job? She said helping, comforting people, and meeting all different kinds of people. Then I asked Laurie if she felt like she has an important job? Laurie’s reply was “Yes, because at the hospital we take care of many hurt and sick people. Or anything thing else where people need medical care, and as a nurse I take care of, comfort, and help patients get better.” Next I asked her what it is like helping sick or hurt patients. She said “It’s hard because I take care of some patients who were smokers, and are in the hospital from smoking. Are diagnosed with cancer, it’s hard to see the damage that some people do to their own bodies, and yet they still can’t stop smoking. But it’s also a rewarding job because you get to see patients that you helped get better.” Then I asked Laurie what were some of the things she doesn’t like about her job? She replied “Long hours, taking care of grumpy patients, working holidays, and weekends. Also working twelve hour night shifts are hard and tiring.” My final question was what would you recommend to kids that what to be nurses when they are older? She said “Go for it, there are a lot of different specialties in the hospital, and if you like helping, and meeting new people then you would definitely enjoy being a nurse.”
