Greenhouse hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon.-Fri. according to Brooklyn Watson, FFA reporter, and will run through May 17. Mr. William Evans, agriculture teacher at TCHS, said that the first part of the greenhouse was funded by a grant in 1988. And then, in 2006, a grant was given to pay for the second half. “We use the profit from the greenhouse to help pay for the plants for future years” said Mr. Evans. The greenhouse is home to about 32 different species of plants, and within those species, there could be about 20 different varieties. "We have around 22 types of tomatoes, five different types of peppers, and so many different types of flowers it's hard to count," said Watson. The greenhouse students work hard and prepare for the greenhouse early, according to Watson. They plant the ferns as soon as December, and then they start seeding in the middle of January. "For some of these students, this is the first time they have had a garden, while others have been working with plants all their lives," said Watson. Sierra Graybeal, a participating student, said “This class is a great experience, and a great class for people who enjoy working in groups.” Another student Katie Ferguson said “this is a class not very many schools have, and it could change your future.” Watson said that as soon as you open the door, you know you have stepped into a wondrous new place, with all colors of rainbow; and that the plants are waiting to be sold.
