By Nick McManus

This year The Saga released its 44 th Volume, comprised of 9 issues. Throughout the year many events have taken place that affected PV and the Chico community. I have taken the liberty to highlight a select few, in case you missed it.
C-SPAN Bus : A prestigious award was given to Joe Hamilton and Brandon Nickas for their video entered in a national competition sponsored by C-SPAN. Two members of C-SPAN traveled to PV to give the award in the C-SPAN bus. The sight of the bus baffled a surprising amount of students who had never heard of C-SPAN.
Heavy metal band : This entertainment article reviewed a local concert of heavy metal bands. It showed the local popularity of this genre through teenagers by head banging, moshing, and singing/cursing along with the songs. Usually heavy metal fans are the ones who blast their iPods and are heard from across the room. The purpose of this masochistic act is lost on me, unless the ultimate goal is to experience the wonderful world of deafness at 34.
Obama new president-elect : On Nov. 4 Barack Obama was elected the 44 th president of the US. The reactions of some PV students were astonishing. After the next president was announced, texts swept through the student population with messages saying “wear black tomorrow to mourn the death of our country.”
Just because their precious P.O.W. was not elected to office doesn’t warrant an apocalyptic reaction. You get what you get and don’t throw a fit.
Chico riots : This article covered the numerous incidents downtown that technically were not a large enough scale to be “riots.” Some were caused by college students, who may have been trying to take Chico State’s party school reputation to a new level with activities like drunken fire jumping and who can throw the strangest object at a police officer.
