Lone Star

http://my.hsj.org/schools/newspaper/tabid/100/view/frontpage/schoolid/222/articleid/246141/lone_star.aspx

By Abby Repko

Sam is a high school senior who works as a host at Lone Star Steakhouse.
Sam works an average of 4 nights a week, usually from 4-10 p.m. He likes his job because, “It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and I still get free food even though I don’t work in the kitchen”. He also likes the people he works with: they’re all willing to cover for him if he has a last minute project due, and they’re all funny. “Most of my friends complain about who they work with. I laugh and tell them that I hang out with my coworkers on my days off. They’re my friends too!”
Even though he likes his job, there are, of course, downsides. “I have to share the tips from tables I host with the servers, so I really don’t get that much. Plus, sometimes when people are hungry they’re grumpy, and I’m the first one they talk to so I get to deal with it.” Aside from that, he likes the people who come in and the opportunity to work with them.
Sam wants to go to college this fall, and hopes that he can save enough money from this job to make the costs a little less. “I plan on working all summer, so it really shouldn’t be too hard. I just really don’t want to work a lot my freshman year in college.”
