By Megan Gamiz

The varsity soccer team consists of a group of boys dedicated to playing and succeeding in a sport they love. Although having overcome challenges as a team, they are back, stronger than ever, and ready to represent. “The greatest challenge had been making sure the guys are keeping up with their school work. Although, compared to last year, the team has done a great job remembering they’re student athletes,” says Coach Kosta. Their key to success? “It’s absolutely essential for the guys to remain focused for the entire game. Lack of focus or loss of focus causes mistakes which can lead to defensive errors and potentially goals against us,” says Coach Kosta. Many people may be under the impression that sport seasons start the first day of practice. Think again. “I think most of the hard work was actually done before the season started. The guys came into the season more fit and ready to play than last year. Also, they were much more determined to have a successful season which is a mental readiness they came into the season with. As for effort put in during the season it’s been two hours a day and two to three games a week,” says Coach Kosta. Arguably, a positive mind set is just as essential for a successful season as is being physically strong and prepared. “We go into each and every season with a sense of a new beginning. You can't move forward if you dwell on the past, we made huge strides during last year’s season so we had plenty to build on for this year. Coming in the guys were very confident in what this years team could accomplish. Last years team won it's first playoff game in ten plus years and to date this years team has the best win loss record going back at least ten years, “ says Coach Kosta.
