By Tori Ostrander

New Jersey Wanting Tougher Driving Laws for Teenagers After the deaths of the four teenage football players this summer in a car accident, New Jersey wants to consider making new laws concerning new drivers. Right now, the law says that 16 year olds are to take their drivers tests then have driving school. After their 6 hours are complete they get their permit and they have their permit until they complete their 6 months or turn 17. Now, after the football player incident and many other incidents, they have created a bill to enforce tougher driving laws for teenagers. They want teenagers to have their permit for a year instead of 6 months and this includes any new driver up to the age of 21. Also, the teenager driving and their parent or guardian would have to go to an orientation program and complete it before the teenager is allowed to get their license. They also want more practice hours for young drivers. These changes were recommended in 2008. This legislation was recommended last year but was denied. After the football player accident, the bill was brought up again. Now, this bill has to pass through the Assembly and State Senate. Now the question remains in every parent and teenagers mind as to if this bill is good for our state.
