Coming off a 6-6 season, second year head coach Jason Horinger has one goal for the lacrosse team.   “I want to improve in every aspect of the game.  In games, in practices– I just want us to keep getting better,” Horinger said. Hoban took a step in the right direction towards reaching this goal beating Revere in the first game of the season 8-4 . Senior Kevin Trabucco described the attitude of the team following the first win. “We proved to ourselves and to the spectators that if you work hard, winning will take care of itself,” Trabucco said. Horinger credits the senior leadership for the early wins. “Each of the eight seniors brings something different to the leadership table.  Each piece is crucial to bringing the team together, and that’s what makes us great,” Horinger said. Trabucco agrees. “The captains are admirable for several reasons: each has a unique athletic ability, knowledge of the game, and perseverance,” Trabucco said. The Knights followed up the season opening win by shutting out Brecksville Broadview Heights 10-0 last Wednesday.  Senior captain Graham Shippy scored seven of the team’s goals, setting a school single game record. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates,” Shippy said.  “Ryan [Mangan], Brady [Williams], and Jake [Dawes] had great assists.” Shippy’s hard work reflected the chemistry of the team.  Of seven of his goals, five were assisted.   “I told the guys, I’m happy for Graham, but I’m even happier for the team.  Graham is not a selfish player.  We don’t have any selfish players.  His goals were a reflection of his teammates,” Horinger said.  “We have great teamwork on and off the field.” The team will have to work hard to recover from the loss of thirteen seniors, but Shippy has faith in his team. “Even though we lost a ton of seniors, we still have so much varsity experience on the team,” Shippy said.   Trabucco thinks the team will be able to bounce back from the loss of so many seniors. “If we just focus on the fundamentals and go back to basics,  we will be able to improve drastically,” Trabucco said. ]]> Mon, 20 Apr 2009 17:31:41 GMT
