By Jasmine Mohandesi

Junior class council member Lydia Mendelson meets with class sponsor Jennifer Cutler to discuss the upcoming Prom. Mendelson and other class council members meet regularly.

Although only December, the junior class has already begun preparations for Prom 08. At a meeting last Thursday, the junior class council welcomed all members of the class of 2009 interested in lending a hand. According to class officer Malaika Paque, the whole junior class can help in organizing the prom and any advice is appreciated. “We had a meeting on Thursday and everyone was welcome to come and help out with activities for prom,” Paque said. While juniors plan on the decorations, location and the prom fashion show, seniors are also involved. “[The seniors] decide on the theme, who wins superlatives, and on prom songs,” senior Parisa Jalali said. “Juniors are a part of deciding on the theme, songs, and superlatives, but seniors have the final say.” According to Mendelson, the bulk of prom planning begins in January. “Not a lot is new right now with prom. Normally people do not start planning prom until January,” Mendelson said. “Right now we are just discussing some prom details in addition to the prom fashion show.” This year, the Prom Fashion show will be March 12th, much earlier than last years’. According to Mendelson, the fashion show was scheduled earlier in order to allow students more time to shop. “[The Juniors] are going to have a prom fashion show meeting in January and anyone can do it. We not only need help with modeling but so much more,” Mendelson said. According to class sponsor Jennifer Cutler, whom is very involved in prom preparations, the key to preparing a successfull prom is class participation. “The more students involved the better the prom,” Cutler said. “Juniors need to pay attention to the morning show and annocements to learn about upcoming events, meeting and ways they can get involved. We want everyone helping out.” This years prom will be held May 31st at Westwood country club
