By Shelby W, Kelsey W, and Ashley R

Thursday, October 9th Renton Jr. High School held a pep rally for our MEAP testing that will be held during our first second and third hours during the upcoming weeks. Ms. Harold hosted the event, with a cereal eating contest, a fill in the blank competition, and a “who can sharpen a pencil the fastest” contest. The participants were two or three students from each grade that signed up to do the contests in previous days. The 8th grade band and Vocal Music class, led by Mrs. Bressler and Ms. Hintz, also performed many songs including some School House rock classics, and our schools fight song. Evana R, Jordyn H, Ally B were some of the soloists. The band did an excellent job with Haley W in first chair with flutes, Cassidy H and Nick N in first chair with clarinets, and Olivia D in first chair with trumpets. Overall it was super fun watching our students, teachers, and principal have fun. We even got to watch Mr. Mrocko, our principal and momentarily the MEAP, get beat up with toy swords. Metaphorically the students were “beating the MEAP”. The students had so much fun, and it was a great teaching technique for the teachers to use to get the students involved and excited about the MEAP.
