Sending four wrestlers to State is a huge accomplishment for Chilton. The team sent: Patrick Breckheimer, a sophomore in the 113 weight class; Jordan Petrie, a junior in the 170 weight class; Nic Adkins, a junior in the 126 weight class and on his second trip to Madison; and Austin Hephner, a junior in the 182 weight class. There are three divisions of wrestling in Wisconsin; Chilton is in Division 2. Each wrestler has to weigh in before his match to be set into a specific weight class. N ic Adkins was the only Sectional champion out of the four wrestlers traveling to State. Nic had a record of 41-9 with a first round bye. Nic said, “It was incredible—the feeling you get; when you walk out of the tunnel and see the lights, you get goose bumps and butterflies.” Nic lost his first match by a pin in the last 18 seconds of the match. He then went to a consolation round and lost 12-2 . Both Petrie and Breckheimer lost their first matches on Thursday Night. Petrie had a record of 34-12 and lost his match by a pin in the second period. Breckheimer had a record of 36-10, and he lost his match 12-7. Austin Hephner was the only Chilton wrestler returning to Madison. Austin had an impressive record of 48-2. Austin won his first match seven to nothing. Austin’s first match Friday afternoon, second overall, was very intense. Austin was down in points and then came back to pin his man with 27 seconds left. Later that night, Austin was in the semi-finals. He was up in points the whole match and pinned his guy with four seconds left. A ustin said, “It was intense. With only three mats down there, you knew you were with the best guys in the state . ” H ephner didn’t have much luck the following night in the finals. Facing a wrestler with a record of 40-1 overall, it was back and forth for the first two periods. Austin’s opponent was able to tire him out and beat Austin 19-7 . With only one wrestler graduating after this year, it seems like the future of Chilton wrestling is bright.
