By Arlet Napoles, Staff Writer

The TRiO program is a program offered at Palm Beach State College and is funded by the US department of Education. The TRiO & outreach program is actually made up of four different divisions, upward bound, educational opportunity center, student support services, and educational talent search. The TRiO programs were originally established by the federal government in 1965 to ensure equal educational opportunity for all Americans regardless of race, ethnic background, financial aid, transition to four year programs from two year programs, or economic circumstances with tutoring, educational fieldtrips (such as touring colleges and universities;), counseling, and many more services. These services are available for students from the sixth grade until the day they graduate from college. TRiO helps low income and first generation college students and individuals with disabilities graduate. If neither of your parents have a four year college degree from the United States, if you are receiving financial aid, if you have a disability or if you are already enrolled in Palm Beach State College, then you qualify for these programs. If you have not been recruited for any of these programs, then you can apply to be part of them with your counselor.
