By Karen Jerez, Co-News Editor

Obama Writes Back!

After the elating news that our new president was Barrack Obama, the juniors wrote letters to him. The initiative was taken by S. Nora by making the letters a homework assignment, but they ended up meaning so much more to the students.
In these letters, the students expressed their emotions toward the new presidency, as well as the inspiration gained by seeing our first African American president. Some of the juniors who received a response from our president shared their reactions with us.
“I was really excited. At first I thought it wasn’t real and that someone was playing a joke on me, but after I realized that it was real I was happy and felt special.
–Shanice Mitchell
“When I received a response from The White House I thought it was so cool. It wasn’t from President Obama, but I still thought it was great to see that our letters are being looked at and even getting responses. It’s nice to know our concerns are being considered.”
– Brittney Alvarez
“I was shocked. I didn’t know he would write back to me. I was filled with excitement and joy as I opened the letter. As I read the letter, I was near to tears. I was full of pride that he had time to read my letter during his first days as president.”
–Krystle Lewis
“When I received the letter from the White House I was shocked, excited, and proud to get a response from our president. I felt like all Americans matter in this society.”

                                          THE WHITE HOUSE
     WASHINGTON
Thank you for your recent note, and for sharing your thoughts with me. Your kind words echo the messages of millions of Americans who have welcomed me and my family to the White House with an outpouring of goodwill
On January 20 th , Americans spoke with one voice, choosing hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. Our Nation faces serious challenges, but we will overcome them if our imagination is joined to common purpose

Now is our time to work together, reaffirm our enduring spirit, and choose our better history. With your help, we will renew our Nation's promise to carry forth the great gift of freedom to future generations, as our forebears have delivered it to us.
