By Cody Dixon

Seen above two of the Hayes Pacer boy volleyball team members, Daniel Lloyd and Nate Wittkugle take a second for a photo while eagerly preparing for practice. Photo courtesy Cody Dixon

The 2007-2008 sports year at Hayes has been a very successful year for a lot of sport teams. The boys’ volleyball team is one team looking to have a triumphant season. The season kicked off on April 5, and so far the team has a record of 3-6 Varsity and 1-2 Junior Varsity. Like always, Gregg Snouffer, a long time boys’ volleyball coach at Hayes and a teacher at DACC, is coaching the boys. “I have been coaching volleyball at Hayes for several years now and have seen some great players come through this team,” stated Coach Snouffer, “This year will be interesting with all of the young players we have.” The team this year consists of 16 players, six sophomores, eight freshman and two juniors, which is a big change from last season when the majority of the team were upperclassman. With only five players returning from last year, sophomore Justin Kerby, sophomore Derek Eastburn, sophomore Jacob Fritz, sophomore Daniel Lloyd, and junior Zach Hyatt, this year is bringing a lot of new faces and determined players to the game. “We have some new young players so the experience level is somewhat low,” stated Nate Wittkugle a junior at Hayes, “The coaches are always on us to become better players so I know that we can do our best, and that next season will be even better.” The boys have 16 more scheduled matches, and various tournaments between April 22 and May 31, four of which are home; so if you have not had a chance to see the Pacer boys dominate the net, get to one of the games on either April 22, 23, 24, or May 7. “Already this season our team has gotten better and that’s what I like to see,” said Lloyd, “I’m very excited for the games to come.”
