Each year people all over make resolutions for the New Year. The standards usually revolve around stopping procrastination, losing weight, getting focused, being nice to people, and so on. These resolutions are made with the best intentions, and some actually try to stick with them. Others forget about them by the end of January or do not think they matter at all and are a complete waste of time and energy. Here is a compilation of resolutions (and those who disagree) from students and staff at ERHS New Year’s Resolutions Eboni Sellers, senior: “My New Year’s resolution revolves around maintaining focus around the things that matter the most (college preparation, church, bettering my health, surrounding myself with positive influences.) I actually meant to start this before the New Year but there were too many distractions in my path. So I started again and call it my New Year’s resolution.” Sydney Parker, senior: “To be more positive, like let go of negative energy. Also to not really care what other people say… And fully commit to being a vegetarian!” Sharde’ Theodore, senior: “Getting back in shape!” Tiara Booth, senior: “Stop eating so much junk food.” Aman Mengis, sophomore: “To stop procrastinating. Less lying too.” Miss Watson, Computer/Technology Specialist: “I want to try to get more organized.” Matthew Jacobs, senior: “I’m trying to eat better and lose weight. Also, I’m trying to not wear workout clothes to school as much. I’m trying to wear more real clothes.” Ms. Wurdack, Math Teacher: “my resolution is to drink more water.” Paris Daniel, sophomore: “I don’t have one, because I can’t stick to them.” Casey Chringer, freshman: “my resolution is to stop making resolutions.” Oliver Meade, sophomore: “my resolution is to sleep more.” Ashley Labonte, senior: “My resolution is to lighten up. I’m not going to stress myself out as much as I have in the past. I need to let loose and enjoy the rest of my senior year!” Donna Gureckas, junior: "I would like to start doing yoga again" Rick Renyer, Social Studies Teacher: "To be nicer to people" The Other Side of Resolutions Daniel Acevedo, senior: “I don’t have a New Year’s resolution because I feel that they are pointless. Why start a resolution or goal when the New Year comes? Why not make it whenever you want” Becky Weidman, junior: “I don’t have a resolution because they don’t last.” Zach Bernheisel, junior: “I think you should make a resolution when it's needed, not just on New Year’s." Rebecca Sowers, senior: “I don’t have one because I thing that 90% of people don’t follow through with them and I know that I don’t follow through with them. I was going to try to be nicer, but I figured that I just don’t think I could be nicer to everyone all of the time.” Gibril Mambouray, junior: “I don’t have one because I think you should always make goals for yourself, not just on a day that the year changes.” Paris Daniel, sophomore: “I don’t have one, because I can’t stick to them.” Chris Bate, senior: “I don’t have one because I feel like you shouldn’t have to have a resolution in order to improve your life or achieve a goal.” Nick Ewing, senior: “I do not have a New Year’s resolution actually because I know that I won’t follow through with one if I made it.” Ms. Lomax-Frazier, Guidance Counselor: “I didn’t really think it about it much. Even if I did make them I would forget about them by the end of the month.”
