By Joey Cochran

Rhett Fieldsted, UHS quarterback, eludes a tackle.

Union's football team is off to a good start this year with a record of 5 wins and 2 losses with their most recent win in the Homecoming Game against Granite and their most recent loss to Park City. The Homecoming game started off a little rough with Granite keeping up with the Cougar offense and making it a close race. Union quickly picked up their pace, however, and took a quick lead over the Farmers with a touchdown from a kickoff return. Good steady movement over the field helped the offense as they progressively finished off the Farmers. Thanks to a hardened and reenergized defense, the Cougars held them to just 6 points in the second half and beat them with a score of 48 to 19. "We came out slow," said Coach Bertoch, "But we got things together despite the pressure, and came back and did a nice job." The football team still has two games left to play this season. Union will have to come back from their 40 - 7 loss at Park City. The Cougars will be playing at Uintah on October 15. A road rally is planned before the game. The football team will wrap up the season with a home game against Wasatch on the 22nd. "We are getting better each game," Coach Bertoch said, "and making good progress." Team captain Jason Nelson commented on the upcoming Uintah game, “From here on out we got nothing but a tough road ahead of us, and at this point of the season this is the most critical game we'll be playing so far.” “It’s important for us to win, and I’m confident that is what we’re going to do. KAC,” he added. The game against Uintah starts at 7:00 p.m., and there is a road rally traveling to Vernal before the game.
