By Chelsea Burns

On a sunny yet breezy day of October 11th, the privileged, level one seniors in Mr. Rice’s classes and photography students of Mr. Bourque had a hiking adventure at the Blue Hills, in Milton, Mass. This field trip was suggested by one of Mr. Rice’s students four years ago. A student suggested this after reading The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King in Mr. Rice’s senior English class. Mr. Rice explained if he could take his students anywhere other than the Blue Hills, he would have chosen “The Appalachian Trail, where the book takes place.” The activities conducted on the hiking trail include “a video scavenger hunt and challenges on the top of the mountain which relate to the story”, Mr. Rice stated. This was the first year Mr. Bourque’s photography class participated in the field trip. They came with a scavenger hunt of their own. Kayla Cochran, ’11, stated the students were required to take photos of “foliage, trails, rocks, and student interaction.”
