Rise Against Rises to Top

By CJay DiPrima

I've never been a big Rise Against fan, however, their new album is definitely worth listening to. The album is titled Endgame, and includes songs that tell about war and battle as well as other topics too. All songs have meaning to them which makes it a very interesting album to listen to. It's almost as if Endgame is telling a story from the point of view of the soldiers in battle. If you have listened to other albums by Rise Against such as their album titled, Appeal to Reason, you'll notice that some songs on Endgame are actually sequels to some on Appeal to Reason. As for the actual content and overall sound of the album, there are multiple pros. The first being that not any two songs sound the same, each song has its own uniqueness. There is also a mix of fast and slow paced songs which helps portray the overall emotion of the album. The lead vocalist, Tim McIlrath, is also worth mentioning due to the fact that his voice is very unique and unlike any other band Ive personally heard. Some songs even include some screaming which, in my opinion, is always a good thing because it gives the listener a taste of his extreme vocal range and also adds to the song's intensity. The only con even worth talking about is the fact that I would like to see them get even heavier in the future with a few breakdowns and such. Other than that, Endgame is an album unlike any other in the punk genre and is definitely worth purchasing.
