http://my.hsj.org/schools/newspaper/tabid/100/view/frontpage/schoolid/3217/articleid/381150/new_kiva_club_works_to_eliminate_poverty.aspx

By Kaitlyn Rabach

The Shores community is once again working to eliminate poverty. English teacher Chris Johnson is starting a new KIVA club. This new club will connect the globe buy allowing people to lend money to entrepreneurs from a wide selection of countries. KIVA is based on the belief that the poor have the ability to be successful when given an extra push and opportunity. Like any other investment, KIVA includes a start-up business and a lender. There is risk in any investment, but Mr. Johnson said it is a risk worth taking. The club's first official meeting will be Oct. 27 in Mr. Johnson's room after school. This new club will be raising money through bake sales, quilt raffles, and many other fundraisers. Mr. Johnson said,"This club will help alleviate poverty. For example, this club is not just giving entrepreneurs the fish, it is teaching them how to fish. This will be the difference that will help people get out of poverty and instill education in their children."
