Be Ready for Windows 7

http://my.hsj.org/schools/newspaper/tabid/100/view/frontpage/schoolid/3310/articleid/301429/be_ready_for_windows_7.aspx

By Jordan Viraldo

Eric Hughey

Windows 7 is coming October 22. With more user friendly applications and a new sleek look, this operating system (OS) should be the best from Microsoft yet. Windows 7’s counterpart and Microsoft’s previous OS, Windows Vista, came out February 22, 2006 to an eager crowd. But even with a loyal following and fan base, Microsoft received a great deal of criticism for the new OS. According to www.vista4beginners.com, the main problem with Microsoft Vista is the lack of proper drivers. This lack of proper drivers affects the overall use of your computer. Vista was meant to be faster than Microsoft’s previous OS, XP. But all the new non-essential updates made the drivers slower. Windows 7 is going to be Vista, the second time around. Microsoft listened to the complaints from users about Vista, fixed the problems, and added some new features. According to www.techradar.com,"Windows 7 delivers the best performance around." One great addition to Windows 7 is a desktop facelift. With Windows 7, the user can be more organized with hidden windows and tabs, and you can easily access applications directly from your desktop. Another addition is the ability to use more advanced video cards. When your computer cannot work with advanced video cards, your game is slow and it’s hard to play World of Warcraft and Star Wars: Bounty hunter. This is a huge difference between Windows 7 and Vista because when Vista came out, the developers claimed it supported high end video cards, but when gamers bought new cards they were disappointed and angry when Vista did not support them. Similarities in the interface make it easy to think of Windows 7 as nothing more than Vista done right. Windows 7 also reduces the amount of disk activity, improving both performance and battery life on laptops. Battery life doesn’t get a significant boost compared to Vista, but you can expect to see bigger improvements in battery life on newer systems. The new interface seems to be the most obvious improvements in Windows 7, but the new release is also filled with tools and features, including better search, full image backup, internet media streaming, and much more. All these new features and additions that come with Windows 7 are nice, but it’s not just bells and whistles. Windows 7 helps your computer run faster and work faster than Vista and XP. "Are there some areas of performance where Windows 7 has just got to be dramatically better in? You bet," Bill Gates, CEO of Microsoft, said to Newsweek Magazine. People are excited to see this new OS. Let’s just hope it’s not another Vista.
