By Jessa Robeson, Staff Reporter

Early practices, staying late, and taking extra tumbling classes the ladies are working hard. The day before the state competition the ladies had a long and hard practice to handle. For seven hours that night, they perfected their routine for the next day.
Tabb Competition Cheerleaders worked hard to place in the top four at states on November 8, 2008. There were 12 teams competing at states, and the ladies worked hard to place fourth this year. Tabb’s cheerleaders have finished in the AA top four for two consecutive seasons.
The competition took place in a center at Virginia Commonwealth University with literally hundreds of fans present. The noise was deafening as fans and parents alike cheered on their team to the goal.
“I made sure to cheer really loud for Tabb, because I know it’s one of the judging criterion,” said J.J. Privet, Tabb High class of 2008.
Tabb’s team made no mistakes in their routine which had lead them to a undefeated record in the previous competitions. After the first performance, the girls advanced to the final round, in which only the top five teams in the state are allowed to participate.
When all five teams gathered in the center of the auditorium to hear the results and to watch the top three teams receive their trophies, the cheerleaders held their breath to see if their school’s name would be announced as number one. It was not Tabb, however.
The days ended with a fourth place take at the state tournament, and the team had an amazing season after winning first place at every district competition, the district tournament, and the regional tournament.
