It all started as a joke between Mr. Stein and Ms. Mullaney. Last year, when she was an intern, Ms. Mullaney told Mr. Stein that “if you could get me a job at Paint Branch, I will sponsor the math team.” Well, Ms. Mullaney, now a math teacher here at PB, is in fact the sponsor of the math team. The math team meetings consist of the students eating cookies and doing practice math problems from old competitions. So far, Ms. Mullaney said that she is “having fun with the math team,” and it is definitely a new experience. Tony Awojoodu, a sophomore who’s been on math team for two years, said Ms Mullaney “is a cool teacher; she’s fun and she brings us food.” They haven’t had too many meetings yet, and right now Ms. Mullaney said they are “picking the A-team to compete in the competitions.” The competitions are held either at Paint Branch, Springbrook Blake, or Kennedy. One of Ms. Mullaney’s goals for the math team is to try and keep the good record that last year’s team had with Mr. Stein. On the topic of officers for the math team, Ms. Mullaney said that they have not decided on the officers yet. They have only had a few meetings.
